This award acknowledges the efforts of established surgeons for their stewardship of fellowship trainees and junior faculty, in contrast to the Pipeline Award that recognizes mentorship efforts directed at medical students and residents. 

Award Amount: The award recipient will receive:

  • $750 honorarium
  • hotel accommodations for three nights (room and tax only)
  • All-access registration to the Winter Symposium

Eligibility

  • Eligible applicants must be a regular ASTS member
  • Individuals may not nominate themselves
  • No mentor can receive the award more than once.

Submission requirements

  • Regular or Trainee-Fellow Members of the ASTS, within 14 years of fellowship, may nominate one mentor annually for this award.
  • The nominator must write a maximum 500-word description of the mentor’s contributions to his/her training and career.
  • The nominator must provide a current CV for the nominated mentor. 

Review Criteria

Applicants must show dedication to the transplant experience of fellowship trainees and junior faculty through at least one of the following:

  • Project development or outreach targeting recruitment of fellowship trainees and junior faculty
  • Recognize research focused on the education of fellowship trainees and junior faculty
  • Outstanding mentorship of fellowship trainees and junior facult
