This award acknowledges the efforts of established surgeons for their stewardship of fellowship trainees and junior faculty, in contrast to the Pipeline Award that recognizes mentorship efforts directed at medical students and residents. The recipient will be recognized during the Awards Ceremony at the Winter Symposium.
Award Amount: The award recipient will receive all-access registration to the Winter Symposium, hotel accommodations for three nights (room and tax only), and reimbursement for travel expenses up to $750 to attend the ASTS Winter Symposium.
Eligibility
- No mentor can receive the award more than once every 5 years.
Submission requirements
- Regular or Trainee-Fellow Members of the ASTS, within 14 years of fellowship, may nominate one mentor annually for this award.
- The nominator must write a maximum 500-word description of the mentor’s contributions to his/her training and career.
- CV for the nominated mentor.
Review Criteria
Applications will be scored based on but not limited the following criteria:
- Academic Achievements 25%
- Clinical Contributions 25%
- Quality of Nomination 25%
- Duration of Service 15% (Administrative)
- Number of Nominations 10% (Administrative)
The last two categories are not scored by reviewers but are entered by ASTS. These categories have fixed scores which are pre-determined based on the nominee’s years of service as a mentor and the number of nominations cumulatively received for the award.
Categories are scored from 1-5 where 1 is the best and 5 is unacceptable.
